Memory Storage
Have you ever wondered about information storage in Hard Drives or iPods, things of that nature?Ever wondered what determines the amount of information something can hold?Ever
wonder why 50 years ago it would take a room full of records to store
all the information that is on your iPod in your pocket?Ever wonder what the absolute threshold for information storage is?I
am no expert when it comes to the physical and technical terms about
computers, but I do know the basics of information storage. Modern
storage devices records all information in 0's and 1's. It does this by
creating a small dent in the surface of the material storing the
information. If you were to look with a microscope (it might have to be
an ESM) at a CD, you would be able to see microscopic divets in the CD.
A divet equals a 1 and lack of a divet equals a 0.
